Upcycle Pencils Into Jewelry // Back to school DIY

Even though I'm no longer in school, I could not pass this opportunity to make a themed craft. My two younger sisters start in September, and before starting to buy new supplies this was the perfect timing to brainstorm some upcycling ideas to make with the old ones. We ended up deciding on jewelry pieces (somehow I always end up making some kind of accessory) wich consist of front/back earrings, wich I am kinda obsessed about, an arrow necklace and a more discreet bracelet.

Materials: Colored pencils | Saw | Sandpaper | Pencil sharpener | Scissor | Hot glue | Super glue | Earring posts | Clear nail polish

1. Start by cutting the tip of the pencil with the saw, make sure the cut is as straight as possible
2. Cut a 2cm piece for the back
3. Sand the ends on both parts
4. Use superglue to glue the earring post to the front and on the back remove part of the pigmented core until you can fit the earring post inside
5. Fill the hole with hot glue and let it cool
6. Pierce the glue with the earring and protect the pencil from smudging color with a coat of clear nail polish.

Materials: Pencils | Screw Hooks | Saw | Sand paper | Superglue | Chain | Jumprings | Pliers |  Nail polish

1. Start by aligning all the pencils in the position you want and mark where you will cut each one
2. Cut the pencils and don't forget to send the bottoms
3. Attach a screw hook on the two pencils from the outer sides
4. Use superglue to glue all the pencils together
5. Finally attach the jump rings and chain.

Materials: Pencils | Saw | Scissor | Washi tape | Pliers | Suede cord | Jumprings | Crimp ends | Clasp | Screw hooks

You can always make your pencil jewelry a bit more discreet like this bracelet, by covering the pencil in washi tape or painting a fun pattern in nail polish.

1. Same as the other two you will need to cut the pencil with the size you want
2. Cover it with washi tape
3. Screw the hooks on each side
4. Use suede cord or any other thick cord to make the wristband, and to close it, attach the crimp ends, jump rings and clasp.

Guest Post: DIY Pearl & Bow Earrings

So excited to be sharing these bow earrings on one of my favorite blogs Minted Strawberry.
For this project, I'm using the bow using a fork technique since it makes it so much easier to create the tiny bows, it's so simple that I had to stop myself from attaching bows everywhere. I kinda want to cover a whole entire piece with bows, maybe and headband or a pillow, do you think that would work?

Head over to Minted Strawberry and check out how easy it is to create these cuties.

DIY Popsicle Stick Earrings

How to make: Popsicle Stick Earrings - curlymade.blogspot.pt #diy #crafts #upcycle #pastel

Today, I wanted to experiment a little with popsicle sticks and since I haven't made earrings in a while this was the perfect opportunity to try a new idea. Use your creativity and try as many color combinations as you want, I was in the mood for some light colors, so I slowly mixed the paints together to create pastel shades.

Since I already had all the materials, this project cost me absolutely nothing and was super quick to make.

Materials:
Popsicle sticks | strong scissors or an x-acto knife | sand paper | paint | drill | glue | chain | jump rings | fish hook earring wire | pliers

Start off by using the scissors or an x-acto knife to cut two arrow shapes with the same size.
Sand the rough edges if necessary.

Choose what colors you want to use and paint the shapes. I've made my own mix of pastel blue and purple.

Get the drill and with a small point, mine was the 1.5, make a hole on the outer corner of each piece.

Glue both of the pieces together and attach the jump rings, chain and earring wire.

These earrings are super lightweight, which is a plus for me, I can wear them all day without hurting. I hate when I see a pair of earrings I love, but can not wear because they are too heavy.

Have you made popsicle stick jewelry before?
If you make these don't forget to post on Instagram #curlymade so I can check it out.

DIY Minimal Bar Earings

Hi everyone, today's diy is so simple and quick to make, it takes probably 10 minutes to make the earings, and they look great with almost every outfit. Silver stands out more against my skin tone, but you can also make these in gold or copper.

Materials:
  • Pliers;
  • Wire;
  • Strong glue;
  • Metal bead tubes in silver

Make a small cut on the tube, this will help gluing and conceal the wire.

Cut about 2 cm of wire and fold the edge in a 90º angle.

Put glue on the folded part of the wire, insert it into the tube and let it dry.
Use those rubber earing backs to hold.
And it's ready!  Isn't it simple?

What do you think? Do you like the minimalistic look?
